PPL Upgrade Kit — Add-On to the RPL Complete Kit
You've already got most of what you need. This is the rest.
The PPLA exam draws on the same permitted materials list you used for your RPL, with four additions. Rather than sell you a second copy of documents already on your shelf, this kit covers only the gap.
Before you order: this assumes you already hold a current AIP, ERSA, PCA, VFRG, CAR 1988, CASR Parts 61 and 91, both Plain English Guides, the Part 91 MOS and your navigation tools. Not sure, or bought your materials second-hand? Check the full list on our RPL Complete Kit page, or go with the PPL Complete Kit instead.
What's included
Sydney WAC · Townsville WAC · Bourke WAC
The three World Aeronautical Charts the PPLA exam is built around. Exam navigation questions reference specific routes and features on these charts, so you need all three — and you need to have flown a few planning exercises on them before exam day. Turning up having never unfolded one is a common and avoidable mistake.
AC 91-02 — Suitable Places to Take Off and Land
CASA's guidance for aeroplanes up to 5,700 kg on assessing whether a place is suitable to operate from: surface, slope, dimensions, obstacles and the margins to apply. It sits behind the performance and operations questions in the PPL exam, and it's the document you'll actually reach for the first time someone suggests a paddock or an unfamiliar strip.
Note that an Advisory Circular is guidance, not law — it explains how to comply with the Part 91 performance rules rather than setting them. Our Legislation Guide covers where ACs sit in the hierarchy and when they carry weight.
Good to know
- Airservices list. These materials belong to the Airservices permitted list. Don't combine them with Jeppesen materials — CASA doesn't allow a mix of the two.
- Check your editions. WACs are reissued periodically. All charts supplied are current at time of dispatch; confirm currency before your exam date.
- Marking rules still apply. Highlighting and underlining are permitted within CASA's rules. Handwritten notes, formulae and unauthorised tabs are not.
