PPL Complete Kit — Full Airservices Permitted Materials List

Taxes included.

The complete Airservices permitted materials list for the PPLA — every document, every chart, every tool. No cross-referencing lists, no chasing a missing WAC the week before your exam.

It also includes a plain-English guide to actually using the legislation, written for people opening these documents for the first time.

Airservices list. CASA permits either the Airservices list or the Jeppesen list — you cannot mix the two. This is the Airservices list. If you already own Jeppesen charts or documents, don't combine them with these.

The legislation — 860+ pages

CAR 1988 (276pp) — Still in force alongside the newer CASR parts, and still examinable.

CASR Part 61 — Flight Crew Licensing (244pp) — Your licence, privileges and limitations. The source for recency and passenger-carrying questions.

CASR Part 61 Plain English Guide — CASA's readable translation. Orient here, then go to the regulation for the wording that counts.

CASR Part 91 — General Operating and Flight Rules (127pp) — The rules that apply to every flight you make.

CASR Part 91 Manual of Standards (180pp) — Where the figures live. Part 91 states the rule; the MOS gives you the number. Your fuel reserve questions come from here.

CASR Part 91 Plain English Guide — The readable companion to Part 91.

AC 91-02 — Suitable Places to Take Off and Land (36pp) — CASA's guidance on assessing a place for operations up to 5,700 kg: surface, slope, dimensions, obstacles and margins. Guidance rather than law — our guide explains where Advisory Circulars sit in the hierarchy.

Operational documents

AIP Book — Airspace, procedures, radio, emergencies. Australia's core operational reference.

ERSA — Aerodrome by aerodrome: runways, frequencies, circuit directions, lighting, hazards.

Planning Chart Australia (PCA) — Route and airspace planning at national scale.

Visual Flight Rules Guide (VFRG) — The best single-volume summary of VFR operations in Australia.

Charts

Sydney WAC · Townsville WAC · Bourke WAC — The three charts PPLA navigation questions are built around. Fly some planning exercises on them before exam day; turning up having never unfolded one is a common and avoidable mistake.

Navigation tools

Flight Computer · 180nm Scale Rule · Protractor — Permitted in the exam and used in the cockpit.

The Aero Essentials Legislation Guide (exclusive)

Over 860 pages of legislation, and no one tells you how to find anything in it.

Our guide shows you how the system fits together — which document answers which kind of question, how a regulation points you to a Manual of Standards, why a Plain English Guide isn't the legal text, and how to trace a question from "I'm not sure" to the exact clause.

Worked examples cover the questions students actually ask: Can I fly today in this weather? Can I carry a passenger? What do I check before flying into an unfamiliar aerodrome? When is my flight review due? Is that strip suitable to land on?

It also covers CASA's marking rules — what you're allowed to highlight, and what will get your materials rejected at the door.

Study aid only. The Legislation Guide is not on the permitted materials list and cannot be taken into the exam room. Neither can index pages, contents pages or page tabs, home-made or commercially printed.

Also covers your RPL

Every document permitted in the RPLA exam is included here. If you're at RPL stage and intending to continue to PPL, this kit covers both — see the note on document currency below before deciding.

Good to know

  • Bring your own calculator. A basic four-function calculator is permitted; scientific and programmable are not. (Sold separately.)
  • The invigilator supplies your workbook, pen, pencil, ruler, eraser and scratch paper.
  • Document currency. AIP, ERSA, the PCA and WAC charts are all reissued on cycle. Everything ships current at time of dispatch. If you're buying at RPL stage for a PPL exam 12+ months away, expect to replace the perishable documents before you sit — we'll remind you.
  • A note on the guides. CASA advises the VFRG and Plain English Guides may not reflect the latest changes. Always confirm against the regulation itself.
